A golf tournament to benefit Denton County resident Nicki Worthey is planned for Saturday, and area golfers can still reserve a spot.
Registration will be at 6 a.m., and the tournament begins at 8 a.m.
The four-person scramble will be played at Turtle Hill Golf Course in Muenster, and cost is $300 per team. Sponsorships are available, and mulligans will be offered for $10 each (maximum of two per golfer).
Registration includes snacks and beverages throughout the tournament and a barbecue lunch.
All proceeds will support the Nicki Worthey Benefit Fund. Worthey, a mother of two, was severely injured in an automobile accident in May.

Free composting class offered by Keep Lewisville Beautiful
Keep Lewisville Beautiful will offer a free composting class led by Monica Chaffin, a Denton County master gardener, from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Lewisville Memorial Park Recreation Center.
Participants will learn why backyard composting plays a crucial role in water quality, nutrient management, soil conservation and recycling.
The recreation center is located at 1950 S. Valley Parkway in Lewisville.

Lewisville Summer Musicals offers ?A Chorus Line? Friday, Saturday
The second season of Lewisville Summer Musicals continues Friday and Saturday at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater with three performances of A Chorus Line.
The series is presented by Texas Family Musicals.

American Red Cross blood drive to be held Saturday
An American Red Cross community blood drive is planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the gymnasium of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Oak St. in Denton.
A photo ID is required to donate, and potential donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Walk-ins are welcome.

Tejas Brothers to perform free concert in Aubrey
The Tejas Brothers will be featured in a free concert at the festival grounds in downtown Aubrey at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The event is part of the Music in the Park series of free concerts sponsored by Keep Aubrey Beautiful.
Attendees are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating and coolers. Food concessions will be available.

Denton County Raiders association sets car wash
The Denton County Raiders Select Sports and Cheerleading Association will sponsor a car wash from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Arby?s located at 2313 Colorado Blvd. in Denton, organizers announced.

Barnes & Noble to host new writer?s event
Several authors are scheduled to take part in a new writer?s event planned at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Denton?s Golden Triangle Mall.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Lexicon Writer?s Conference to give new and local writers a chance to showcase their work, according to an event press release.
Authors who are scheduled to participate include: Joe McKinney, author of Dead City, Apocalypse of the Dead and Flesh Eaters; Bill Wetterman, author of Room 1515; and Ken Farmer and Buck Steinke, authors Black Eagle Force: Eye of the Storm.

Krum First United Methodist Church is featuring Summer Splash events Monday through Friday until school starts.
Daily themes are featured, and the program is open to ages 12 and younger.

Quilters leave on goodwill mission to Tanzania
A team of quilters from the local area left Sunday on a goodwill trip to Tanzania.
During their visit, which will continue through early August, team members will be teaching Tanzanian women how to make quilts to improve their incomes.
?We are scheduled to visit two trade schools and have about 20 to 30 students,? Hope Edwards, a member of the group, wrote in an e-mail.
Donated quilting tools and other supplies will be given to the school, and the group will be making small loans to help students sustain their new skill, she said.
Other members of the group include Barb McCraw, who will be leading classes, and Elizabeth Kruger and Vickie Mulkey, who with Edwards, will be assisting and providing individual support.
Several quilts were recently raffled to raise money for the trip.
